Universidade de Santiago de Compostela

About the University:

The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) is the oldest university of Galicia and the 5th oldest in Spain. It is located in the city of Santiago de Compostela, capital of Galicia.

First cycle of the Licentiate in Physics:

I came to the USC in 2003 and between 2003 and 2006 finished the first part of the Licentiate of Physics. Apart from the official lectures, I also participated in the next activities:

  • Languages:
    • German: courses during two years.
  • Sports:
    • Athleticism: also during High School, reaching three times national championships.
    • Football: university league.
    • Handball: university league.
  • Other activities:
    • Debate: participation in the National University League of Debate, a debate contest among all the universities in Spain.

Second cycle of the Licentiate in Physics:

Although I fulfilled this part of my studies in different places (Heidelberg, Santiago de Compostela and Granada); I was always bounded to USC, my home university; being the other two my host universities in the frame of different exchange programs (Sócrates/Erasmus or SICUE/Séneca).

From this 'second cycle' of the Licentiate studies, I spent at the USC the academic year 2007/08. That year I was granted by the Education Department of the Spanish Government to study English in Santander during a week in a linguistic immersion program held by the International University Menénded Pelayo (UIMP). Also this year I was introduced to research tutored by Prof. Dr. Jorge Mira Pérez, and began to collaborate in a project to study language evolution from a mathematical point of view. The project and the collaboration with Prof. Dr. Jorge Mira Pérez lasts until today.

At the end of the academic year 2007/08 a closing ceremony was held for the graduating students and I was chosen by my fellow students to read the student's address.

I also participated in the next activities:

  • Languages:
    • English: course during one year
  • Sports:
    • Football: university league.
